James Farrar

Sep 30, 1952 — Oct 23, 2026

James “Jim” Farrar, 74, of Oblong, IL, passed away on October 24, 2026, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing in Robinson.

Jim was born on September 30, 1952, in Sullivan, IN, to Donald D. and Dottie (Downen) Farrar. He grew up in Hutsonville, IL, and graduated from Hutsonville High School in 1970. On July 14, 1970, he married Barbara Hill, and the two shared 56 years of marriage.

After high school, Jim spent seven years working for the railroad before finding his way into the automotive industry. He worked in body shops and eventually owned and operated LT Automotive for 26 years. He also worked as a semi-tractor parts salesman. Jim was a natural tinkerer who could fix just about anything. He had a sharp mind and a knack for figuring out how things worked, and even in his later years at the nursing home, he enjoyed watching engine repair shows.

Jim was a NASCAR enthusiast and a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan. Rarely seen without a hat, he was known for his dry sense of humor, a little cockiness, and a quick wit that kept those around him on their toes. Beneath it all was a man who loved his family dearly. He took great pride in his grandchildren and was especially thrilled to welcome his great-grandchildren into the family.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Farrar; his daughters, Hope (George) Weber, Sheri Daugherty, and Marcy (Greg Staley) Nave; his grandchildren, Jorie (Javen) Weber, Mia Weber, Jacob Nave, Lucas (Teagan) Nave, Zeke (Lauryn) Nave, Lyssa Nave, Cat (Josh) Rice, and Sharyn Slisher; his great-grandchildren, Cyrus Nave and Lucee Nave; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rodney Farrar; and his sister, Dinah Holmes.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, no public services will be held.
