John Brannon

John Brannon, 80, of Hutsonville, IL, died at 3:55 a.m. (EST) on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born June 19, 1936 in Palestine, IL to Glen Brannon & Velma (Shidler) Brannon. John served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1957, having served on the the USS Ross in the Sonar Division. He married Donna Woolverton on December 16, 1966. He retired as a machinist from Ameren after 32 years of service. He and Donna spent their retirement traveling, and enjoyed this period of their life. He could almost always be found with coffee in hand, chatting up his coffee buddies from the Wabash Coffee House and Hardee’s. He will be forever missed by family and friends alike. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Brannon (Hutsonville, IL). He is also survived by his daughters, Brigetta & Joanna Brannon (Palestine, IL), Shelley & Gene Williamson (Hutsonville, IL), Julie & Stanley Howell (Erwin, NC), and Leslie & Brad Becker (Weldon, IL); by his grandchildren, Shandra Rains, Shayna & Matt Lingle, Abby Williamson, Chris Lutz, Josh & Asia Becker, John Becker, Emily Becker, Chloe Becker, Tyler Williamson, and Amanda Meeks; by his great-grandchildren, Jase Lingle, Jasper Lingle, Elijah Butler, Pierson Butler, Connor Williamson, Haleigh Williamson, and Ace Meeks; by his brother, Randy & Carolyn Brannon (Palestine, IL); by his sister-in-law, Judy Brannon (Tuscola, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen & Velma Brannon; by two brothers, Jim Brannon and Jerry Brannon; by his sister, Sally Gunn; and by his brother-in-law, Harold Gunn. Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Bro. Joe Griffith officiating the service. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and the Palestine AmVets Post #33. A time of visitation will precede the service and will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday. Following services, John will be cremated with a private family graveside service to be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
