John C. Maurer

John C. Maurer, 68, of Brownstown, IL, passed away Sunday morning, April 22, 2012 at his home.John Carl Maurer was born March 15, 1944 at Paducah, KY. His parents were Kenneth Maurer II and Virginia Griffith Maurer. He married Joyce (Mullins) Christine on September 8, 1988 at Robinson, IL.John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Robinson. He was also a member of the Masons, Shrine, and Kiwanis International organizations. He had participated in Crawford County ESDA, Crawford County Amateur Radio organization, Vigo County Amateur Radio Club and Marshall Half-Fast Square Dance Club.In the 70€™s through the 80€™s, John was owner and operator of J.M€™s. Business Machines in Robinson. He also served as the Xerox Sales Agent for the area.John€™s love was in the law enforcement area. He served as a K-9 police officer in Martinsville, IL. Other officer positions were held in Oblong and Hutsonville, IL. He retired from the St. Elmo, IL force as a K-9 officer in 2010. Prior to retirement, he served as the D. A. R. E. instructor.In their spare time John and Joyce spent many enjoyable hours horseback riding with friends in the Shawnee National Forest.Surviving are his wife, Joyce of Brownstown; daughter, Jamie Jones and friend, Mark Jones of Hutsonville; son, Bradley (wife, Megan) of Robinson; stepson, Monty Allen Christine of Robinson; brother, Kenneth (wife, Brenda) Maurer III of Westfield, IN; grandchildren, Kaehla Maurer of Orlando, Florida, and Nora Anne Maurer of Robinson; step-grandchildren Camron and Nikomi Christine of Robinson.He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Brian Keith; and faithful K-9 companion, €œSnickers€Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Pastor Jim Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirk Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted by the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250 at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home after visitation.
