John Edward Weger

John Edward Weger, 92, of Flat Rock, IL, died at 9:24 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Riva Ridge Memory Care in Leander, TX. He was born January 19, 1923 in Birds, IL, the son of Virgil “Lyle” Weger & Maggie McKeown Weger. He married Wanda Rose Love on October 18, 1946, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Gary Wayne & Elvena Weger (Round Rock, TX), Janice Kay & Randy Rigg (Evansville, IN), Rick Weger (Flat Rock, IL), and Terry Joe & Stephanie Weger (Portland, OR); 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, Eugene, Paul, Neil, Richard, Robert, and William; by his sisters, Lois and Nancy; and by his grandson, Robbie Weger. John served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, having earned the Bronze Star before being discharged as a Chief Master Sergeant. Back stateside, he was a boilermaker, having worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron for 40 years before retiring in 1984. Away from work, John was an avid fisherman, a passion that stayed with him until the very end. He will also be remembered for his love of St. Louis Cardinal baseball. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Masonic Lodge, the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, and the Ainad Shrine. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Masonic rites will follow the visitation and will start at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2nd at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Good Hope Cemetery, along with military rites.
