John Halterman

John Halterman, 72, of Palestine, IL, died at 4:09 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. He was born February 20, 1945, the son of Fred & Eula (Ozment) Halterman, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Sharon Kae Mehler on September 5, 1965, and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Halterman and Chuck Halterman. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Napier (Robinson, IL); by his sons, David Halterman (Palestine, IL) and Michael Halterman & his fiancée, Wendy Hoagland (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Kris Perisho (LaSalle, IL), Kashtyn Perisho (Annapolis, IL), Keith Perisho (Effingham, IL), Kyle Perisho (Martinsville, IL), Nick Halterman (Palestine, IL), Myranda Napier (Robinson, IL) and Madison Halterman (Robinson, IL); by his great-grandchildren, Kaiden Perisho, Trinity Perisho, and Kypher Napier; as well as many nieces and nephews. John was a 1963 graduate of Hutsonville High School. He furthered his education at Vincennes University, where he earned an Associate’s Degree. He worked hard as a farmer, and dedicated his life to the field before retiring in 1987. Following his retirement, he worked as the store manager for Advance Auto Parts in Vincennes, IN for a number of years. Away from work, he could often be found outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing for much of his life. He also could be found attending car shows and woodworking, having made countless treasures through the years. More than anything, he enjoyed simply spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A masonic funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, and will be officiated by the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849. A memorial service will immediately follow. Memorials may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children or to Ronald McDonald House Charities, with memorial envelopes available at the funeral home.
