John Michael "Mike" Stewart

July 19, 1952 — September 4, 2017

John Michael "Mike" Stewart, 65, of Robinson, IL, died at 12:39 pm on Monday, September 4, 2017 in his home. He was born July 19, 1952 in Palestine, IL, the son of Don L. Stewart & Roberta F. (Stivers) Stewart. His father preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by his mother, Roberta Stewart (Marshall, IL); by his brother & sister-in-law, Tim & Terri Stewart (Marshall, IL); by his sister & brother-in-law, Jody & Doug Mendenhall (Robinson, IL); by two children; and by his best buddy and fellow Cardinals fan, Bob Midgett. Mike grew up in Robinson, and was the starting shortstop for the 1964 Little League team that won the state championship. After graduating from Robinson High School, he laid carpet for a time before going to work as a truck driver for Marathon out of the Robinson Terminal. He eventually moved on to the barrel house, where he worked as a chief operator for several years. Away from work, Mike loved spending time on the golf course. He was a regular at Oak Glen, where he played with his dad and other good friends from the Robinson Elks Lodge, where he was a longtime member. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, as anyone who knew him could attest. He will be remembered as a man who loved tending to his yard, and had one of the nicest in town. Mike will be cremated without a public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
