John R. Kasinger

John R. Kasinger, 77, of Palestine, IL, died at 3:46 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born October 6, 1940 in Saint Francisville, IL the son of Raymond & Mary (Bledsoe) Kasinger, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Raymond Kasinger, Jr.; and by his siblings, Bill Kasinger and Sherrill Kasinger. He married Patricia Rose Collins on June 5, 1976, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Pamela & Chuck York, Ronald Todd Kasinger, and Darrin Anthony Harrison; by twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; by his siblings, James Kasinger, Vance Kasinger, Bertha Jerrell, and Gail Potts; as well as several nieces and nephews. John was born and raised in Saint Francisville. He went on to work for Texaco for several years before retiring in 1985. He moved on to Lincoln Trail College, where he worked as the maintenance supervisor until retiring in 1993. Away from work, John always stayed active. In his younger days, he was a model airplane enthusiast, having built all of his craft from scratch. He was, by all accounts, a skilled woodworker, and made countless pieces for himself as well as for family and friends. He could often be found outside, be that fishing on the Wabash or walking around Palestine. More than anything, however, he loved simply spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. John will long be remembered as a considerate man; someone who was always ready and willing to help if he could, and never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial following in the Palestine Cemetery. Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate the services.
