Joseph S. Bush

April 29, 1948 — November 8, 2025

Joseph Stephen Bush, 77, of Evansville, IN, and Palestine, IL, passed away peacefully at his family home on November 8, 2025, after a period of failing health.

Joe was born in Palestine, IL, on April 29, 1948, to Lester and Mary (Maddox) Bush.

He graduated from Palestine High School, Vincennes University, and went on to attend Indiana State University. Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a radio operator in Vietnam. He was a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

After returning home, Joe worked as a printer in Indianapolis. A horrific car crash, in which he was seriously burned, cut his career short. He faced his injuries and the many surgeries that followed with calm strength and courage, never letting them stop him. Once he had fully recovered, Joe resumed his career as a printer with the Evansville Courier & Press, where he worked until his retirement.

In Evansville, Joe became a faithful member of the Methodist Temple, where he taught Sunday School and formed many dear friendships within his church family. When in Palestine, he attended the church in which he grew up, the First Presbyterian Church.

Joe loved attending University of Evansville Purple Aces basketball games and following tournament play before being limited by health problems. He continued to cheer on the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers until the end of his life. In healthier times, he enjoyed attending both the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 500.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, and one cousin.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise and Bill Sier; nephew, Andrew Sier; and niece, Rachel Sier, all of Manhattan, KS. He also leaves behind five cousins and a host of friends.

A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Andy Payton officiating. Burial will take place in the Palestine Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Robinson VFW Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
