Joseph William Riggs, 58, of West Union, IL, died at 8:03 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Gainesville, FL. He was born April 29, 1959 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Burton Joe Riggs & Dorothy Jeanne (Thompson) Riggs, both of whom survive. He married Sara Lee Eggers on December 19, 1978, and she too survives. He is also survived by his children & their significant others, Kimberly & Ryan Pinkston (West Union, IL), Bobbi Riggs & Doug Tuttle (West Union, IL), and Andy Riggs (West Union, IL); by his grandchildren, Addison Pinkston (West Union, IL), Jaedlynn Riggs (West Union, IL), Grayson Pinkston (West Union, IL), and Jozey Riggs (West Union, IL); by his brother & sister-in-law, Terry & Cathy Riggs (Olney, IL); by his “brothers by another mother”, Brad Bloomer and Jamie Booth; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved fur baby, Boo. Joe was a 1977 graduate of Marshall High School. He went on to work for Supermet in Marshall for 15 years before becoming a general contractor. If he wasn’t working, Joe could almost always be found riding his motorcycle. Few things brought him more joy than being outside, be that riding his bike, camping in southern Illinois, or fishing off the pier in Florida. Although he maintained a tough-guy image, anyone who really knew him could attest to the fact that the man simply had a heart of gold. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Gillaspy officiating. In honor of Joe’s love for his four-legged friends, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society. Monetary donations may also be left in care of “Goodwine Funeral Homes” to help Joe’s family with final expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
