Josephine “Jo” Doris Chapman, died with family by her side, shortly after midnight, Sunday April 3, 2016, a resident of the Heritage Health Center in Robinson, IL. She leaves surviving her three children, Larry Chapman and wife Gail of DeMotte, IN, Cathy Payne and husband Carl of DeSoto, IL, son Harry Chapman and Wife Glenda of Texas, four grand children, and eleven great grandchildren. Jo was raised in Dulac, LA, the daughter of Louis and Corine Francis, Jo is survived only by brother Nolan Francis and wife Hazel, and sister Corine Paulk; Jo was predeceased by infant son Louis, and siblings: Elnora, Eva, Joseph Antoine, Clifford, Sidney, and Melvina. During WWII she met, and later married, Army Cpl. Charlie Chapman on Dec. 29, 1945 in Evansville, IN, until his death Aug. 30, 2004. Away from work, Jo was a seamstress, gardener, and homemaker; in her later years she, or she and Charlie, spent their day caring after great grandchildren Margaret, Chase, Chan, and Cricket, who undoubtedly gave them much joy. During her years in Robinson, Jo was a long-time member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where her children were baptized and her marriage vows renewed to Charlie on their 50th anniversary. Jo was a loving mother and will be missed by her family and many friends, she was an unselfish giver of her time and energy; above all she was a good Christian woman. May God bless her always. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5th at the Mound Cemetery, rural Oblong, IL. Her family will be presiding over the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
