Juanita Brashear

Juanita Brashear, 91, of Flat Rock, IL died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. She was born December 4, 1926 in Robinson, IL, the daughter of James Coleman Lloyd & Sarah (Hale) Lloyd, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Tom Brashear on May 16, 1948, and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas Michael Brashear; by her brothers, Miller, Dan, Nolan, Price, Loren, Amos, Harold, Darrel, and Donald Lloyd; and by her sisters, Lois Gray and Margaret Mullins. She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Randall Mark & Donna Brashear (TX), Jerry C. Brashear & Christine Murray (Flat Rock, IL), and Roger K. & Christine Brashear (Flat Rock, IL); by 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Juanita was a 1944 graduate of Robinson High School. For many years, she busied herself singing at church and funeral services, and even sang on the radio. This same love of music brought her to love square dancing, a pastime that she enjoyed for much of her life. Anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that Juanita was wholly dedicated to caring for her family. Though much of her life was spent at home, she also found time to become a school bus driver for CUSD #2. Over the course of her 18 years on the road, she touched the lives of countless area children. Her love of children was also apparent at home. She was, by all accounts, the neighborhood “mother”. In the summer, her yard would be full of children, and she loved every minute of it. She and her green thumb also loved spending time in her flower and vegetable garden, and this was a great source of joy in her life. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. An hour of visitation will also be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3rd at the South Union Church, rural Flat Rock, with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Danny Dennis will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to South Union Church or to Good Samaritan Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
