Juanita Kathryn "Kate" Cawood

Juanita Kathryn 'Kate' Cawood of Flat Rock, IL, died at 9:04 p.m. (EST) on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born February 21, 1930, in Palestine, IL, the daughter of Harry Coombes & Lela Boyles Coombes, both of whom preceded her in death. Kate married Robert Cawood on May 8, 1948, and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a son & daughter-in-law, David & Mary Cawood; her brothers, Raymond Coombes, Kenneth Coombes, and Harry “Jack” Coombes; her special niece, Judith Rutan; and two great-grandchildren, Parker Courtney and Jaythen Courtney. She is survived by three sons & daughters-in-law, Doug & Terrie Cawood (Lawrenceville, IL), Rob & Doris Cawood (Robinson, IL), and Larry & Mary Jane Cawood (Robinson, IL); two daughters & a son-in-law, Linda & Joe Spade (Bridgeport, IL) and Sandra Redman (Robinson, IL); twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Martha “Bunk” Markwell (Greenup, IL); her sisters-in-law, Florence Cawood (LaPorte, IN), and Betty Kelsey (Robinson, IL), and Jo Coombes (PA); as well as several nieces and nephews. Kate was proud of her family, who will miss her generous heart and her wonderful cooking. She could often be found watching St Louis Cardinals baseball and Fighting Illini basketball. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and recently, jigsaw puzzles. She was a longtime member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Funeral services will follow the visitation and will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Flat Rock United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
