Judith Kay Cornwell

April 9, 1942 — March 28, 2016

Judith Kay Cornwell, 73, of rural Annapolis, passed away at 2:00pm on Monday, March 28th 2016, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield IL. She was born April 9th, 1942, in Palestine IL, the daughter of Charles and Doris (Bush) Jackson. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University, and then worked as a substitute teacher; she then worked for several years at Pools Bargain Center, going on to work at Wal-Mart in Marshall, Robinson, and Lawrenceville for fourteen years. Judy was a child of God by the acceptance of and faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. She was active in her beloved church, Mt. Olive Baptist all of her adult life, serving in nearly every capacity, including teaching the older adults Bible class for many years, and eleven years as treasurer. She was an avid reader, often reading well into the night, as well as a lover of music, crosswords, cryptograms, and Colts Football. She married Carroll Cornwell on December 22nd, 1963, in Palestine and he survives. She is also survived by her children Stacey Joanne Watson (Robinson), Todd Cornwell and wife Duska (Charleston) and Troy Evan Cornwell (rural Annapolis), brother Doug Jackson (Palestine), sister Kim Jackson (Concord NC), grandchildren Kenny Watson and wife Angela (Evansville IN), Tasha Watson Milam (Lawrenceville), and Jordan Todd Cornwell (Charleston); two great-grandsons Jonah Carroll Milam (Lawrenceville) and Jaxon Robert Watson (Evansville IN), and great-granddaughter Grace Marie Benton (Lawrenceville), as well as many dear in-laws. She took in Carroll’s six-year old son, Paul, when she married Carroll, and he precedes her in death, as well as many dear in-laws. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2nd, at 10:00am at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in West York, IL with Pastor Will Bynum officiating. Burial will follow at the Medsker Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, April 1st. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Orphan Care or Good Measure International, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
