Kathryn Irene Mcconnell

Kathryn Irene McConnell, 83, of Palestine, IL, died at 9:56 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born August 23, 1931 in Heathsville, IL the daughter of Paul Edward Neeley & Ruth Perry Neeley. A graduate of Palestine High School, she went on to earn her Masters Degree in Education at Indiana State University. A teacher for 46 years, Kathryn started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Heathsville, and then worked for Palestine Grade School for several years before ending her teaching career at Lincoln Trail College. She will be remembered as a bright and witty person who loved her family and her Lord. She was very active at Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as a church organist and as a beloved Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her daughter, and also attended numerous St. Louis Cardinal baseball games over the years. Kathryn married Phil McConnell on August 8, 1982, and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Earleywine (Indianapolis, IN); her two step-sons, Kent McConnell (Hobart, Australia) and Kevin & Sue McConnell (Robinson, IL); 4 granddaughters, Brooke & Shawn Knotts, Megan & Mark Anselment, Hannah McConnell, and Amber McConnell; her great-granddaughter, Landree Anselment; her former husband, Van Earleywine; her sister, Pauline Outcalt (Terre Haute, IN); nephews Todd Outcalt and Ty Outcalt; as well as several nieces. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with her nephew Todd Outcalt to officiate the service with Pastor Jane Drake assisting. Burial will follow at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
