Kenneth R. Freed, 87, of Newton, IL, passed away around 1am Friday, October 24th, 2014 at Heritage Health in Robinson, IL, as a result of declining health. Born Dec 19, 1926 in Abilene, KS, he was the son of Clarence Ralph Freed and Hazel Grace (Sword) Freed. On August 28, 1953, he was married to Donna Rae (Gardner) Freed in Vincennes, IN. They divorced in 1983. He married Betty Brewer (Mason) Freed on December 1st, 1990 in Olney, IL. He was a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering in 1951. He worked as an Independent Consulting Petroleum Geologist for over 50 years, forming the International Wireline service in the early 1980’s. He attended the Church of Christ in Yale, IL. He was also a US Navy veteran of WWII, a member of the Illinois State Geological Society, the Illinois Oil and Gas Association, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, fraternal Order of the Eagles, American Legion Earnest M Coulter Post 69 of Robinson, IL, and later American Legion Post 20 of Newton, IL, and The Republican Party. Mr. Freed loved people. He was passionate about his family, his work, his alma mater’s football team, his politics, and his German Shepherd dogs. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Sturgis, KY; son and daughter-in-law Charles Freed and Terry (Osborn) Freed of Robinson; daughter and son-in-law Kennita (Freed) Tully and Steven Tully of Manhattan, KS; step daughter and son-ln-law Brenda (Brewer) Williamson and Wayne Williamson of Sturgis, KY; grandchildren Raymond Tully of Overland Park, KS and Hazel Tully of Bloomington, IN; step grandchildren Jennifer (Williamson) Ward and Katie (Williamson) Ward of Sturgis, KY, Amy Brewer of Murray, KY, and Tracy Brewer of Harrrisburg, IL; sisters Clarene (Freed) Landacre of Renton, WA and Darlene (Freed) Ales of Clearwater, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Delbert Z, Virgil D, Johnny M, sisters Velma I and Delma L, and his first wife, Donna. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. The funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
