Kenneth W. “Hank” Stone, 78, of Palestine, IL died at 11:18 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born October 19, 1938 in Palestine, IL, the son of Harold S. & Melba Jeannette (Allee) Stone, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Lois (Baud) on September 22, 1961 and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2001. He then married Nancy (Shingel) on March 28, 2003 and she too preceded him in death on July 1, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Shirley Ann Stone, Royal Preston Stone, and Paul Wayne Stone; and by his sister-in-law, Nina (Catt) Stone. He is survived by his significant other, Janice “Jenny” Chapman (Palestine, IL); by his daughter, Jodi Stone (Carmel, IN); by his son, Russell & Amanda Stone (Palestine, IL); by his grandchildren, Isaac Stone and Myrah Stone; by his sisters, Elinor Sue & Anthony Laurenzana (Westfield, IN) and Fran & Daniel Conner (Indianapolis, IN); by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Hank was proudly born and raised in Palestine. He went on to work for the Ettelbrick Shoe Factory for a time and was also a self-employed brick mason for many years. Never one to stay tied down to home, Hank could often be found driving around, visiting friends along the way. He also spent quite a bit of time hunting deer and mushrooms. He thoroughly enjoyed eating, especially breakfast, and shared many a morning drinking coffee with friends. In recent years, Jenny opened his eyes to the world of travel, and he especially enjoyed visiting Kentucky Lake. Anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that although he was quite the jokester, he was a straight shooter, he told it how he saw it. Hank was full of life, and his presence will forever be missed by his family, his friends, and his community. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A funeral service will follow and will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Tim Watson officiating the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
