Larae Nethery

March 5, 1942 — July 2, 2023

LaRae Nethery, 81, of Oblong, IL, passed away on July 2, 2023, at Timber Creek Village in Robinson, IL. Born in Robinson on March 5, 1942, she was raised in Flat Rock, IL, and a graduate of Robinson High School. From there, she exhibited an unmatched work ethic, applying her skills and talents to multiple local businesses ranging from L.S. Heath & Sons, the Ettelbrick Shoe Factory, ER Moore, and then to Crawford Memorial Hospital and Harmon's Drug Store. Her industrious nature was balanced by her creative streak - she was a sought-after seamstress, and her handiwork stitched together the fabric of the small community she served. Equally noteworthy were her baking skills that won many hearts; in particular, her bread and rolls were known to be pieces of homemade heaven!

By nature, she was an adventurous soul. LaRae loved to camp, and the Hickory Holler Campground ranked high among her favorite locales, while Land Between the Lakes and Opryland also held special places in her heart. She held close the memory of her journey to Wyoming to visit her brothers, an experience incredibly precious to her.

While the world was her campsite, her heart was always at home with her loved ones, who formed the core of LaRae's world. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Nethery; by her sons & daughters-in-law, Rod & Stacy Nethery, Robbie & Theresa Nethery, and Rick & Beth Nethery; by her grandchildren, Jodi & Nick Beavers, Erica & Josh Hatfield, Tyler & Taylor Nethery, Stephanie & Scott Snelt, Katie Turkal, and Becca Nethery; by her great-grandchildren, Ashyln Hatfield, Rhett Nethery, Alayna Lingafelter, Alivia Lingafelter, and James Lingafelfter; by her siblings, Brenda & John Graham, Bonnie Dunlap, Rex Dunlap, and Dean & Rhonda Dunlap; as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Lewis & Mary Mae (Lamb) Dunlap, and her brother Keith Dunlap, LaRae was an anchor to her family, their bonds woven denser by her warm threads of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. LaRae's bond with her family was as heartwarming as her love for the Lord's creatures, especially dogs. From Cocker Spaniels and Poodles to Dachshunds, her heart held a special place for these faithful companions.

LaRae was a devout member of the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Oblong for two years, and although her membership was recent, she attended with heartful dedication for a much more extended period. You could see the teachings of Jesus resonate in her actions, a testament to His empowering love and faithfulness. By the grace of God, LaRae Nethery was a beacon of kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering faith, and her memory will forever shine bright in the hearts of those who knew her until that sweet day when we get to see her again!

It was LaRae's wish to be cremated, and the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of these arrangements. Her family will conduct a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8th, at the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, 106 W. Missouri St. in Oblong, with Pastor Ray Watts officiating the service. No formal visitation; however, friends are welcome to arrive early and visit before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Cornerstone Wesleyan Church".
