Larry Garrard

Larry Garrard, 74, of Robinson, died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born September 27, 1939 in Robinson, the son of Alfred Garrard & Alice Stevens Garrard. He graduated Robinson High School in 1958. A dedicated laborer, Larry was an active member of Labor Local #1280 for 39 years, 22 of which were spent as president. He was also an experienced carpenter, and helped frame and roof several local houses. He retired in 1992, and spent most of his time at his cabin on the river, where he enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed hunting, feeding nearby hummingbirds, and spending time with his dog, Benj. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1968 and his father in 1984. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Garrard in 1977, Raymond Garrard in 2006, and Kenneth Garrard in 2008. Larry is survived by his children & their spouses, Penny & John Divine (Maryville, IL), Jim & Shelley Garrard (Bridgeport, IL), Tim Garrard (New Hampshire), Paul Garrard (Palestine, IL); his step-children, Rhnay Friedrich and Rick & Jennifer Fritch; eighteen grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Jetta Lee & Paul Matheny (Robinson, IL); his brothers, Clayton & Melody Garrard (Casey, IL) and Robert Garrard (Flat Rock, IL); his sisters-in-law, Chris Dunlap, Joani Garrard, and Ruth Garrard; his former spouse, Barb Garrard; as well as several nieces & nephews. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. As per Larry’s wishes, cremation will follow the visitation and a private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
