Larry Wayne Knoblett, 75, of Robinson, IL, passed away at 4:01 PM on December 29, 2025, at the Crawford Memorial Hospital ER. Larry was born June 25, 1950, in Palestine, IL, to James LeRoy Knoblett & Frances M. (Crouch) Knoblett. He grew up in Palestine and graduated from Palestine High School in 1969.
Larry was a hard-working man who held many jobs over the years. He worked many years on his family's hog farm and also worked at Briggs Pottery and Union Carbide. Over the years, he drove semis, both self-employed and for others, including P&EI and Trimble Industries. He also worked many years as an oil gauger at BiPetro Oil, where he retired in 2012.
Larry loved the outdoors! From the multitude of animals he raised over the years—hogs, peacocks, ostriches, rheas, emus, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs—you name it, he probably had at least one over the years! Larry had gardens and orchards with all kinds of fruit trees. Whether he was working on cars, trucks, semis, or drag cars, you would find him out in the shed tinkering with something. Larry raced drag cars for many years. He was a buyer and trader, never going to pay the asking price for anything; he would always talk a man down before paying for something.
Most of all, Larry took pride in his family. He loved his family—kids and grandkids—and he was always telling stories about them. And boy, to know Larry, you know he loved to talk best! He did not know a stranger and could talk to anyone for hours. You knew you were never going to be anywhere on time because he was going to be talking to someone. And when it was time to leave, you might as well plan on saying "goodbye" at least a couple of times, because the conversation was going to continue for a while.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his mother & father-in-law, Darrell & Betty Hammond; his former wife, Karen L. Knoblett; and his sisters-in-law, Janet K. Knoblett and Janice Rippy. Larry leaves behind his wife, Teri Knoblett, whom he married on December 20, 2008. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Rippy of Spring, TX, Gary (Linda) Knoblett of Chatham, IL, and William "Bill" (Ramona) Knoblett of Palestine, IL; his sons, Cory (Melissa) Knoblett of West Union, IL and Clint (April) Knoblett of Palestine, IL; his daughter, Canda (Willie) Pethtel of Palestine, IL; his step-children, Jodie (James) Myers of Sante Fe, TX, Jeff Higgins of St Edward, NE, Kevin Hightshoe of Knoxville TN, Kip Hightshoe of Evansville, IN, and Missy (Joe) Miller of Owensville, IN; his grandchildren, Blake and Morgan Knoblett of Palestine, IL and Cydney and Waylyn Pethtel of Palestine, IL; his step-grandchildren, Zach (Tiffany) Farmer, Brittany Farmer, Whitley Brown, Terry Jr. "Bubba" (Stephanie) Gay, Candice (Dane) Garcia, Jennifer (Jon) Kirk, Caleb (Brianna) Higgins, Lindsey (Dustin) Patton, Curtis Higgins, and Jeremiah Hightshoe; by several step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his faithful dog and friend, Buddy.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13th, at the Oak Grove Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is assisting the family at this time.
