Larry "Oz" Lowe

Larry “Oz” Lowe, 63, of Palestine, IL, died at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Heritage Health in Robinson, IL. He was born November 9, 1954 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Ausby Lawrence Lowe, III & Elizabeth (Willis) Lowe, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister and longtime caregiver, Beth Lowe (Palestine, IL); by his beloved labs, Big boy and Daisy May; as well as a host of good friends and neighbors. Larry grew up in the Palestine area and was a 1974 graduate of Palestine High School. From an early age, he displayed an extraordinary intelligence and was well-versed over a wide range of subjects. In grade school, he got his HAM radio license (callsign KE9CA), and this was a passion that he pursued for the rest of his life. In fact, he earned the United States of America County Award by the Radio Amateur’s Journal for communicating with every county in the U.S. He was also active in the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, the Scottish Rite, and was a member and past trustee of the Palestine First Presbyterian Church. He spent countless hours working the fields, both at home and alongside Eric Fulling on his farm. Away from work, Larry could often be found rooting for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. Larry’s wit and one-of-a-kind sense of humor will long be remembered by all who knew him. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Masonic Services will follow at 6:00 p.m. Thursday and will be officiated by the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19th at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. During the service, there will be an opportunity for friends to share their memories of Larry. Casual dress is requested, and if you come dressed in Cubs, Bears, or Illini attire, all the better! Burial will be held at the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials may be made to “Shriner’s Hospitals for Children”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
