Larry ("Sug") Morecraft

December 20, 1943 — March 13, 2016

Larry (“Sug”) Morecraft, 72, of rural West Union, IL, passed to his Heavenly home at 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in the comfort of his home. He was born December 20, 1943 in Marshall, IL, the son of Claude Jasper Morecraft & Esther Mae Sanders Morecraft, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Don Sanders and Bob Morecraft; and his sister, Alice Jackson. He married Kathryn Ledermann on August 17, 1962, and she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Mark Morecraft and Stephen Morecraft; by his daughter, Lynetta Ewert; by six grandchildren & their spouses, Heath (Elisa) Morecraft, Tabitha (Austin) Ward, Amber (Kory) Griffith, Kathryn Smith, Haley Morecraft, and Caleb Smith; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings & their spouses, Fred (Charlotte) Morecraft, Martha (Wilbur) Hutchens, Harold (Evelyn) Morecraft, and James Morecraft; his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Robert (Ann) Ledermann; as well as several nieces and nephews. Larry was a graduate of Ozark Bible College and was ordained into the ministry at West Union Christian Church in West Union, IL in 1967. He was a retired police officer with the Joplin Police Department in Joplin, MO, where he served for 20 years. Larry was also a Youth Minister for Central City Christian Church in Joplin. After retirement, Larry & Kathryn moved to West Union, where he became a farmer and Multi-Township Accessor. He was also an elder of the West Union Christian Church. In 2002, he became the minister of Five Points Christian Church. He was an avid reader and also loved model trains and tractors. Family was especially important to Larry, and he was always having family gatherings at his house. He will be remembered for his love of laughter and of telling stories. He loved his church family and was always there for his family. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16th at the funeral home with Mark Morecraft, Rusty Morecraft, and Freddie Morcraft officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Five Points Christian Church Building Fund, or to the Ohio Cemetery, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
