LaVerne Sylvia Bloomberg Hubbard, 90 of Robinson, died at 1:44 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 8, 1924, the daughter of Andrew & Louise Bloomberg. She attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Math degree in 1946. She received the Phi Beta Kappa Award while at College. LaVerne worked for many years at the Gary Public Library in Gary, IN and loved to read. Laverne was well travelled, having visited several countries across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and was known for her love of chocolate. She moved to Robinson, Illinois in November 2004, and was a member of the Robinson First United Methodist Church. She married Frank Benson Hubbard, Jr. on September 28, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents. LaVerne is survived by 3 children, Bill & Jonice Hubbard (West Jordan, UT), Nancy & Dr. Steven Skancke (Great Falls, VA), Susan & Ernie Roales (Robinson, IL); 10 grandchildren, Andrea & Glen Mabey, Neal & Becky Hubbard, David & Camilla Hubbard, Holly & Karl Christianson, Dallin & May Bo Hubbard, Thomas Hubbard, Matthew Skancke, M.D. & his wife, Sarah Skancke, Carolyn & MacNeil Paine, Paul Roales, Jonathan & Laurette Roales; 19 great-grandchildren, Corinne Mabey, Peter Mabey, James Mabey, John Mabey, Joseph Mabey, Charlotte Mabey, Stephan Mabey, Adam Mabey, Ruth Hubbard, Andrew Hubbard, Caleb Hubbard, Spencer Hubbard, Cole Christianson, Miranda Christianson, Chet Christianson, Eve Christianson, Rosemary Hubbard, Micah Hubbard, and Quentin Hubbard. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Rev. Tiffany Black to officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Robinson First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
