Lois Baker, 92, of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 8:05 a.m. (EST) on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born August 28, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Lewis & Ethel Scharph, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Richard Gahan and Jake Hamlet; and by her sisters, Shirley Guaghtz and Carol Daugaard. She married Albert Baker on July 22, 1962 and he survives. She is also survived by her honorary son, Bob Butler and his sister, Betty Butler; by seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews. Lois’ life revolved around cooking. She was a restaurateur in Reno, NV for several years, having owned and operated three in the Reno area. But she took more pride in cooking for her family and friends, and will long be remembered for the love she gave to them in this way. A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st at the Pioneer Room in Palestine, IL, with Jerry Moore officiating the celebration. In honor of Lois’ love for feeding her loved ones, a luncheon will be prepared. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
