Lowell Cornwell, 74, of Melrose, IL, died at 8:55 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Casey Health Care Center. He was born September 26, 1940 in West Union, IL, the son of Charles Wesley & Sarah Esther (Strohm) Cornwell. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves for a time. Lowell farmed early in his life, and also owned the West Union Caf for a short time. He made a career of being an Iron Worker, and was a member of Local #22. He was also a member of the West Union Chapter of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and of the Melrose Church of God. He was the past president of the trustees of Medsker Cemetery and was also involved with local carnival entertainment for several years. He had a great admiration for his two dogs, Candy and Carnie. Survivors include his companion, Sally Hall (Vincennes, IN); his son & daughter-in-law, William Wesley “Wes” & Sheri Cornwell (Decatur, IL); his sisters, Jean Cutrell (Yakama, WA), Carol Ann Cornwell (Marshall, IL) and Hilda Cornwell (Melrose, IL); his grandsons, Adam and Jared Lagemann; his nephews, Charles “Chuck” & Barb Cutrell and Steve & Justice Cutrell; his niece, Ren & John Hayes; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 10th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union with Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey and Rev. John Hayes to officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Medsker Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Medsker Cemetery, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
