M. Roselyn Thompson

April 16, 1916 — October 24, 2015

M. Roselyn Thompson, 99, of Hillsboro, OR, formerly of West Union, IL, died on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in Forest Grove, OR. She was born in rural Clark County near West Union on April 16, 1916, the daughter of Earl and Katy (Alexander) Arbuckle, both of whom preceded her in death. She married E. Dean Thompson March 22, 1936, and he too preceded Roselyn in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edmond, John, Gene, Hershel and sisters, Ruth and Mary; three nephews, Warren, Glenn and Russell Arbuckle; three nieces, Fern Bowen, Hazel Nichol, and Peggy Webb. Also deceased are a number of dear in-laws and a host of Alexander, Arbuckle and Marvin cousins. Roselyn is survived by her daughter, Janice R. Curry (Hillsboro, OR); two grandchildren, Camille C. Curry (Portland, OR) and Christopher Q. Curry (Portland, OR); a sister-in-law, Lois E. Downey (Lawrenceville, IL); and by her nephews and nieces, Ed Arbuckle, John Boyer, William 'Bill' Arbuckle, Donna Walker, and Fay Simpson. Roselyn lived a very full and productive life. In her younger days, she could be found riding horses, playing cards, quilting, or socializing at Cornwell's Country Store. She also helped her husband Dean with various school events and also in tending to the garden, milking cows and raising chickens. She was very active in her community, having volunteered for many local functions. She was also involved with various square dancing groups, the Clark County Home Extension and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Faith played an integral role in Roselyn's life, and she attended a number of area churches: Ohio Chapel, Melrose Church of God, and Potter’s Hall. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy and working word puzzles. She will long be remembered for her exotic dishes like barbequed raccoon that she brought out for special occasions, and for the joy she found in traveling, reading western novels, and sharing love with her family and friends.
