Marcella Slater

Marcella Slater, 85, of Robinson, IL, died at 12:35 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis, IN. She was born February 22, 1931 in Homer, IL, the daughter of Harry Cutright & Floe (Thompson) Cutright, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Leo Slater on January 13, 1951, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Cutright, Herman Cutright, and Russell Cutright. She is survived by her son, Doug & Lori Slater (Robinson, IL); by her daughter, Mitzi & Roger Martin (Robinson, IL); by 7 grandchildren, Levi & Nicky Slater, Christopher Slater, Jalyne Goss, Katie Slater, Slater Martin, Jackie & Brad Keim, Jamie & Seth Crackel; by six great-grandchildren; by two sisters-in-law, Lois Cutright (Martinsville, IL) and Nelda Cutright (Terre Haute, IN); as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marcella was a 1949 graduate of Casey High School. She was a committed wife, mother, and grandmother to her beloved family. She stayed active in her community, as well. Marcella volunteered close to 10,000 hours with the Crawford Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and was also very active with the local Republican Party, serving for a time as County Chairman and Precinct Committeeman, and was also involved with the Crawford County Republican Women. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Fighting Illini Basketball fan, and also enjoyed watching hummingbirds. Marcella lived a full life, and her family will forever remember her as a fun-loving, but classy lady. She will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Brother Randy Nave officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery. A time of visitation will precede the service and will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
