Mark R. Wilson, 63, of Palestine, IL, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN after an extended illness. He was born August 22, 1952 in Robinson, IL, the son of Glenn & Margaret (Carter) Wilson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Connie J. Abbott; and by his son, Steve Miller. He married Lynda Miller on December 31, 1984, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Blaine Rich (Oblong, IL), Stelena Sweet (Oblong, IL), Travis J. Wilson (Robinson, IL), Jennifer Decker (Robinson, IL), David Miller (Palestine, IL), and Mary & Les Hightshoe (Hutsonville, IL); seventeen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; by his sister, Patty Brenton (Evansville, IN); as well as several nieces and nephews. Mark proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as well as in the U.S. Navy. Back home, he was a boilermaker, and was a member of Belleville Boilermakers Local #363 for over 20 years. Away from work, Mark loved restoring old vehicles. One of the highlights of his life was driving his Corvette down his beloved Route 66 with his son, T.J. He also had a love for the western United States, and traveled through most every state. He also had a passion for Native American history, and collected a number of artifacts. He was a member of the Palestine Eagles, where he served as secretary for number of years. Mark will long be remembered for his giving spirit, for his wonderful sense of humor, and for the love he had and gave to his family. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Graveside services will follow and will be held at the Palestine Cemetery, with military rites to be performed by the Robinson VFW Post #4549. Memorials may be made to the Palestine Eagles, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
