Beloved wife of Franklin Mahan Arnall; loving mother of Patrick (Tommye Fleming), St. Louis, MO; Joanne Douglas (Michael), of Georgetown, TX; Michael (Jolene) of Brighton, CO: Rebecca Price (Ric), Yucaipa, CA, and Alan (Susan) of Glendale, CA; dear grandmother of 13, great grandmother of 2, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Born in Crawford County, IL (near Flat Rock), June 27, 1919, the daughter of the late Dr. Dolph and Mary C. Sullivan Conover. Graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College near Terre Haute, IN. She was a teacher in Illinois, and a leader in the League of Women Voters in Texas, fighting to eliminate poll taxes and helping minorities register to vote long before the Civil Rights Act. She believed in eating dessert first. Memorial Mass for Mr. & Mrs. Arnall to be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, August 8 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Robinson, IL. Burial immediately following at Jones Cemetery in Flat Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter ( ) or the USO ( ). Franklin Mahan Arnall, 82, of Claremont, CA, June 29, 2001. Beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Conover Arnall (see obituary above); loving father of five; grandfather of 13, great grandfather of 2, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Born in Joplin, MO June 28, 1918, the son of the late Charley Lanice Arnall and Hallie Bell Mahan Arnall. Served in the US Army’s 269th Engr Combat Bn in World War II, 1943-1945. Wounded near Battle of the Bulge in 1945; awarded the Purple Heart. Graduated from The University of Oklahoma. Employed as engineer at Blaw Knox, Monsanto, Lockheed and Jacobs Engineering, among others. Avid antique padlock collector and publisher of The Padlock Collector. Shared services with Mrs. Arnall.
