Mary Ellen Smith

Mary Ellen Smith, 84, of Robinson, IL, died at 2:07 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 in her home. She was born June 20, 1933, the daughter of Floyd Smith & Martha Ellen (Hoskinson) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She also preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, James, John, Garnet, and Roy Smith; and by her sister, Elizabeth Smith. She is survived by her siblings, Rosa May Smith (Robinson, IL), Lois June Merriell (Clinton, IL), and Larry Dean Smith (Spruce Pine, NC); as well as several cousins. Mary grew up in the West Union area and was a graduate of Robinson High School. She dedicated her life to being a caretaker, and cared for countless over the course of her life. When she wasn’t tending to the needs of others, she could be found pouring herself over a book. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial following in the Bailliff Cemetery. Richard Houser will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to the Mary Ellen Smith Memorial Fund, with checks made payable to “Goodwine Funeral Homes”. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
