Mary Joanne White

Mary “Joanne” White, 81, of Palestine, IL, died at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson, IL. She was born May 16, 1935 in Casey, IL, the daughter of Carter Newlin & Mary (Barr) Newlin, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Foy Lee White on November 1, 1956, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Delbert Newlin in infancy, as well as her aunt & uncle who raised her, Ray & Claire Hand. She is survived by her children, Donna Rosenthal & husband, Jeff Stocking (Buda, IL), Julie Hamilton (North Vernon, IN). and Brad & Eva White (Palestine, IL) and Steve & Isis Earnest (Cloverdale, IN); by her grandchildren & their spouses, Ryan & Jaimie Rosenthal, Kylee & Adam Gutshall, Tyler & Erin Rosenthal, Sam Stocking, Ashley & Greg Evans, Cole Hamilton, Les & Brandie Hamm, Brandon & the late Jenna Hamm, Crystal & Tyler Cox, Karina & Russ White, Mary Jane & Jake McAtee; by 14 great-grandchildren; by her brother & sister-in-law, Delmar & Leida Newlin (Melbourne, FL); by several nieces and nephews; and by her special friend, Bruce White. Joanne grew up in the Annapolis, IL area and was a graduate of Hutsonville High School in Hutsonville, IL. She went on to become a nurse, and worked for the Schmidt Clinic for 42 years before retiring in 1998. Away from work, she could be found playing cards with the “card club girls”, crocheting, and attending gospel sings. Joanne found her passion in dancing and also loved spending time with her family, who has lost a beloved mother, grandmother, caregiver, and friend. She was a longtime member of the Outer West Market Church of Christ in Palestine. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11th at the Outer West Market Church of Christ in Palestine. A memorial service will follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, with burial following in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Pastor Tim Watson will officiate the service. Memorials may be made to the Outer West Market Church of Christ, with envelopes available at the church. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
