Marylan H. Osborn Flenner, 81, of Robinson, IL died at 5:22 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born on March 9, 1936 at home in Oblong Township, the daughter of John Robert Meese, Sr. & Cora Elizabeth (Inboden) Meese, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Kenneth Osborn in 1955 and he preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, LaVern Meese, Ernest Meese and Garry Meese; by her sister, Josephine “Josie” Rhoten; by her sister-in-law, Donna Meese; by her brother-in-law, Larry Ness and Howard Osborn; by her son, Michael Osborn; by her son-in-law, Otey Bowen; and by her grandchildren, Parker Wayne Courtney, Jaythen Wayne Courtney, and Melinda Marie Osborn. She is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law, Kenny & Carolyn Lynn Osborn, (Hardinville, IL), Howard Osborn (Oblong, IL), and Larry & Pam Osborn (Flat Rock, IL); by her daughters & sons-in-law, Karen & Ralph Beabout (Porterville, IL), Beulah & John Chiappa (Vincennes, IN), Mary & Orman Tohill (Robinson, IL), and Sherri & Ronald Sr. Bone (Oblong, IL); by her brothers & sisters-in-law, John & Phyllis Meese (Oblong, IL), and George & Penny Meese (Robinson, IL); by her sister, Dorthy Ness (Robinson, IL); by her sister-in-law, Katharyn “Kathy” Meese (Oblong, IL) and Dorothy Osborn; by her special friend, Wayne Goodwin; as well several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Marylan grew up in Oblong Township. She went on to work as a cook for multiple local establishments, including the Sugar Bowl, Tic Toc, and Bob’s Steakhouse. She also worked for Robinson Transformer for a time before becoming a nurse’s aid at Ridgeview Care Center, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 1996. Away from work, Marylan stayed active at Bible Chapel Church, where she was a member for many years. She was also a member of the Sunbeam Home Extension Group, the American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Cooties Auxiliary. At home, she could often be found working on a quilt or tending to her garden. Music also played an important role in her life, and few things brought her more joy than singing or playing the piano. She will long be remembered as a fun but tough spirit who loved her family with her entire being. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th at the funeral home, with burial following in the Palestine Cemetery. Brother Joe Griffith will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to the VFW Transportation Fund, with memorial envelopes available at the funeral home.
