Max E. Chiddix, who was born near Palestine, IL, in 1918 to John C. Chiddix and Lucille Edgington Chiddix, died April 27, 2009 in Walnut Creek, California. Both of his parents had deep roots in Crawford County. At age 4, Max and his parents moved to Normal, IL, when his father took a high school teaching position there. Max received a Ph. D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1943. He then worked as a research chemist for GAF, first in Easton, Pennsylvania and later in Texas City, Texas. He retired in 1982 and moved in 1985 to Walnut Creek, where he and his wife continued to be active in a number of churches and service organizations.Max was preceded by his wife of 64 years, Frederica Wilson Chiddix, in 2008, and is survived by a son, Jim of San Francisco, CA, and daughter, Susan of Peterborough, Ontario.There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Pleasant View Church, rural Palestine with Rev. Paul K. Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant View Church, % Rev. Paul K. Phillips, 104 W.
