Maxine Spence, 89 of Palestine, IL, died unexpectedly at her home Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born February 6, 1925 in Hutsonville, IL, the daughter of Matthew McDaniel and Mabel Irene McCain McDaniel. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Palestine Senior Citizens, a member of the Palestine First United Methodist Church, and played piano for may years at nursing homes in Crawford County. She married Charlie R. Vaughn in August of 1945 and he preceded her in death in February of 1969. She married Lawrence Spence August 21, 1971 and he preceded her March 14, 2009. She was also preceded by her daughter, Janice Drummond February 16, 2007, her step daughter, and her brother, Harold McDaniel March 14, 2009. Maxine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charleen and Craig Saxton, Evansville, IN, her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Cathy Spence, West Salem, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 2 step daughters. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Crail, Kingsford Heights, IN, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol McDaniel, Walterton, IN, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 12th at 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine with Pastor Jane Drake officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home.
