Melvin Wayne Ramsey

Melvin Wayne Ramsey, 70, of Palestine, IL, died on January 21, 2026.

Melvin was born on June 9, 1955, in Sullivan, IN, to Dale and Frances (Donahue) Ramsey. He grew up in the Flat Rock and Palestine areas and was a graduate of Palestine High School. He later worked as a pipefitter for several years with Local Union #157.

Melvin had a deep love for the outdoors and felt most at home near the river—his favorite place to be. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching wildlife, and he appreciated the quiet beauty of nature. He also enjoyed watching football and NASCAR. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren, who brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers, Sonny Ramsey (in infancy), Larry Laverne Ramsey, and Jerry Dale Ramsey; and by three sisters, Anita Kay (Ramsey) Weger, Mona Diane Ramsey, and Donna Kent.

He is survived by his daughter, Miranda (Dusty) Harrison; grandchildren, Drake Keesling, Riley Locklin, Kyson Harrison, and Kyra Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Melvin’s wishes, he is to be cremated without public services. The family plans to celebrate him with a fish fry when the weather warms, a fitting tribute to his love of the river and the outdoors. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is assisting the family at this time.
