Mike Henderson

April 8, 1957 — July 28, 2025

Mike Henderson, 68, of Robinson, IL, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2025.

Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on April 8, 1957, Mike faced challenges early on. At 14, he suffered a traumatic brain injury, but it never kept him from embracing life fully. He carved out an identity rooted in independence, storytelling, and deep curiosity. He wasn’t a man of material needs. Give him a few familiar faces, a good meal, some classic rock, and that was enough.

To know Mike was to remember him, plain and simple. He lived with quiet defiance, humor, grit, and heart. Whether he was walking miles through town in his younger years, riding his lawnmower like a parade float thru town, or working at his Mom’s Flo’s Restaurant, Mike did things his own way and made no apologies for it.

Mike had an uncanny memory for music and moments. He could walk you through a 1970’s concert like it happened yesterday or break down the meaning of a Pink Floyd lyric with more insight than most critics. He had his rituals: the Tribune Star Newspaper, Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and trips to the beaches of Naples, Florida with family. The zoo held a special place for him. He found joy in the details most people overlooked.

Though he never drove, Mike never lacked direction. His storytelling was legendary…funny, blunt, sometimes emotional, always honest. Whether talking about visits to Thailand, family history, or a random memory from his childhood, Mike made you feel like you were there.

Mike noticed the finest of details, the kind of person who paid attention, who remembered names, quirks, and moments. His loyalty ran deep, and his connections with others were quiet but meaningful.

Vonda, Mike’s Help at Home caregiver, and Micah from Carle Hospice offered gentle guidance and became part of the family.

Mike’s final days were spent at home where he was most at peace and where his Mom Flo wanted him to be for the rest of his life. Surrounded by family and love, he left this world the way he lived it: simply, sincerely, and humbly.

He is survived by Lea (sister) & Stan Reno of Robinson, IL; Stephanie (sister) & Darrin Boyd of Indianapolis, IN; Christina Moler (niece) and family of Robinson; Billy (nephew) & Stephanie Carter and family of Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Henderson Jr. & Florence (Shutack) Henderson; Kathy Lake (sister); and by his nephews Jerry “Bubba” Carter and Mike Moler.

Mike will be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is assisting with arrangements.
