Albert Morgan Newlin, 93, of Hutsonville, IL died at 8:28 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born September 11, 1920 in Hutsonville, the son of Albert G. Newlin & Mable Rains Newlin. He was raised in the West Union, IL, area and has lived in the present livestock and grain farm home since 1936. He was instrumental in pioneering a program for local farmers to contract popcorn for an Evansville, IN company. Morgan graduated from Hutsonville High School in 1938 and worked to get the southern part of Clark County into the Hutsonville School District. He attended the University of Illinois until returning home to manage the farm after his father's death. He helped get the HHS Alumni Association started and was awarded Distinguished Alumnus in 1993. He also worked to get Lincoln Trail Junior College started and was on the Crawford Memorial Hospital board for many years, receiving the honor of being trustee emeritus. He was chairman of the Crawford County chapter of the Wabash Valley Association and was co-founder of the Crawford County Historical Society. He also helped the Crawford County Chamber of Commerce get started and was chairman. He worked for the Federal Court of Danville for 27 years and helped start the Cub Scout den in Hutsonville. His hobbies were restoring Model T Fords and woodworking, being a member of the Terre Haute Antique Car Club. He was a life member of the Robinson Elks Lodge 1188, the York Masonic Lodge #313, Danville Scottish Rite, Ainad Shrine and Crawford County Shrine Club. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist congregation of Terre Haute, IN. He married Elizabeth “Lib” Nichols on May 6, 1942, and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1966. He then married Iris Earlywine Mail on July 1, 1968, and she preceded him in death on January 1, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gregory Newlin; his sister Martha Ritch Grant, step-father Ed Turner, brothers-in-law Forest Nichols and Russel and Mary Nichols, sister-in-law Marjorie Nichols Foster, and long-time companion Lois Palmer. Survivors include son Douglas and Yvonne Newlin and twin grandsons, Jesse and William Newlin. He was also survived by step daughter Susan Mail Bell and step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friends Gene and Jackie Lindley; as well as many more relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will follow in the Hutsonville Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th at the funeral home with a Masonic Service following at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the York Lodge #313 or to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
