Nan Schaefer, 93, formerly of Robinson, IL, died on September 22, 2026, in Parkland, FL.
Nan was born on February 17, 1933, in Hillsdale, IN, the daughter of Faye Turnipseed and Ira Billings. On July 27, 1951, Nan married Lloyd Allen Schaefer, and together they began a life centered around family and the farm. Nan proudly considered her occupation to be that of a mother and farm wife. She devoted herself to raising their children and helping wherever she was needed, taking care of the countless everyday things that kept both a home and a farm going. She and Lloyd shared nearly 60 years of marriage before his death on April 4, 2011.
Away from the work of everyday life, Nan knew how to enjoy herself. She loved settling in with a good book or movie and spent many hours knitting. She was always ready for a game, whether it was cards, Bingo, or trying her luck at the slots. When mushroom season arrived, Nan was an avid hunter and enjoyed the search for those well-hidden treasures. She was also a dedicated basketball fan who followed both the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat.
Over the course of 93 years, Nan's life took her from Indiana to the farm and her many years in the Robinson area, and eventually to Florida. Through each season, family remained at the center of her life. She had the joy of watching her family grow from her own children to grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving behind generations who will carry with them their own memories of Nan and the life she shared with them.
Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Allen Schaefer; her brother, Bob Billings; sisters, Barbara Bilyew, Frieda Harris, Ruby Gomez, and her twin sister, Ann Sieg; daughter-in-law, Lisa Schaefer; and son-in-law, Mark Phillippe.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marcia Phillippe of Scottsboro, AL; Vickie and Tom McDonald of Parkland, FL; Cathy and Howard Harris of Georgetown, TX; and Michael Schaefer of Hutsonville, IL; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the "NOW Program" or the "Alzheimer's Association ," with envelopes available at the funeral home.
