Noble O. Correll, Md

Dr. Noble O. Correll, 95, of Stuart, FL, died Sunday, March 20, 2016. Dr. Correll was born July 16, 1920 in Robinson, IL to Margaret (Hull) and Noble Correll. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1942 and then served as a naval aviator during World War II. On June 25, 1944, he married Violet Butler and she survives. In 1950, he received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine along with BS degrees in Liberal Arts and an MS in Experimental Surgery. He served his internship with the San Diego Naval Hospital and his surgical residency at VAH Hines in Illinois. He was board-certified in General Surgery in 1956 and in Thoracic Surgery in 1957. He had private practices in Lagrange, Hinsdale, Park Ridge, and Des Plaines, IL from 1960 – 1973, serving on various professional committees. He held the position of Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery and many other ranking positions at Lutheran General Hospital. He had teaching responsibilities at University of Illinois, Loyola University and VAH Hines for several years while in private practice. In 1979 he moved his thoracic surgery practice to southeastern Florida where he served as Director of Medical Education at Cypress Community Hospital while maintaining a private practice in the Stuart – Jupiter area, where he also served on several professional committees at Martin Memorial Hospital until his retirement from private practice in 1985. After his retirement, he returned to the Veteran’s Administration performing thoracic surgery in several VA hospitals across the country. In 1990, he returned to Stuart to enjoy full-time retirement. His hobbies were vast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping, painting, singing with The Mariners barbershop quartet, cooking, reading, composing music, and writing about the world around him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers & sisters in law, Claude H. (Mary Williamson) Correll and Nolan E. (Cleo Hunt) Correll; two sisters & brothers in law Lorna (Gaylord) Griep, and Mary (Jordan) Greene. In addition to his wife, Noble is survived by a sister-in-law, Iris Butler of Stuart, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews. A private celebration of his life will take place in Illinois. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL is in charge of arrangements.
