Norma Price, 91, of Robinson, IL, died at 4:40 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born at home on October 18, 1924 at the Mound in rural Willow Hill, IL, the youngest daughter of Harmon McCoy & Edna Lenore (Vaughn) McCoy. Norma’s family moved from the Mound to Robinson in 1928, where her parents ran the McCoy Grocery Store on South Cross Street, which was open for a total of 31 years. In 1942, she graduated from Robinson Township High School. She furthered her education when she earned a degree from the Michael Reese School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating as a registered nurse (RN) in 1945. After graduating, she stayed at Michael Reese, where she took on the role of head nurse in the labor room until 1947, when she returned to Robinson. There, she became Superintendent of Nurses at the Schmidt Clinic for two years before marrying Eugene H. Price on December 31, 1949. That year, she returned to Chicago Wesley Passavant Hospital for anesthesiology training. There, she became a certified registered nurse anesthetist (RNA). She took her training to Effingham, where she worked as an RNA at the Saint Anthony Hospital until 1965, at which time, she returned to Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson to work as an RNA until retiring in December, 1975. Early in her retirement, she served as President of the Lincoln Trail Foundation Board from 1979-1980. Throughout their retirement, Norma & Eugene enjoyed several years of travel. Their adventures took them all over North America, where they visited many national parks, travelled by train across Canada, and saw Alaska by sea and by land. Their travels also took them overseas, from Hong Kong and China, to Normandy on the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. When she wasn’t travelling, she could often be found outside tending to her flowers. In later years, she also enjoyed taking part in Bridge Club. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and joy in her life. Norma is survived by her son, Van Price (Cody, WY); by her daughter, Marcy Ann Price (Clayton, GA); by her grandchildren, Nick & Kelsey Shaner (Kingsville, TX), Cole Shaner & Esther Cha (Robinson, IL), and Brad Shaner (Robinson, IL), Morgan Price, Chantel Price, Keith Price, Ian Price, and Alysha Price (all of Clayton, GA); by her great-grandchildren, Alijah Price, Caiden Price, and Ariyiah Price; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon McCoy & Edna Lenore (Vaughn) McCoy; by her husband, Eugene H. Price on May 29, 1997; and by her siblings, George McCoy, Reba Grey, Ralph McCoy, Madge Smith, and Isaac McCoy. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18th at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery.
