Norma Rose Mattis, 84, of rural Martinsville died on December 1, 2012 after several months of failing health. She was born on April 23, 1928, the daughter of Harry & Mabel (Miller) Willmann on a farm near Marshall, IL. She grew up with two beloved sisters, Mrs. Clara Low and Mrs. Helen Wernz. She graduated from Marshall High School and cherished those friendships she made there.
She was a member of the Island Grove Baptist Church, the Friendly Neighbors HEA Unit, and a resident of the Villas of Holly Brook. She drove a school bus for many years and loved knowing so many students and watching them grow up. She felt blessed in her life, and she enjoyed living on a farm and was ready to do anything for her family & friends. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and her dog, Pepper who has been adopted by residents of the Villas.
She married Marshall Craig Mattis in 1948 and he preceded her in death on December 1, 1999. She also lost her 20 year-old grandson, David Craig Mattis who died on Jury 25, 1999.She is survived by her four children - Donald (Kathy) Mattis of Carrollton, IL, Richard (Cristy) Mattis of Jerseyville, IL, Ann (Ray) Emken of rural Flat Rock, IL and Steve (Joetta) Mattis of rural West Union.
She was a proud grandmother to Karen (Tad) Droste & great-grandson Sam; Kate (Mike) Pohlman; Jason Mattis; Vicki (Matt) Sowders; Eric (Kendra) Updegraff & great-granddaughters Sarah & Olivia; Ryan (Amie) Updegraff; Christopher Emken; Matthew (Ann) Mattis & great granddaughter Ella; and Kristofer (Courtney) Mattis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will be held in Ohio Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Island Grove Baptist Church or to the donor's choice.
