Olen Chamness Wells, 97, of Melrose, IL, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Rome, GA. He was born March 15, 1918 in Melrose Township, IL, the son of Orin Wells & Esther Chamness Wells, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Annabelle Jackson in 1940, and she preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Wells. Olen is survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, Steve & Sue Wells (Rome, GA) and John & Dorrie Wells (Kankakee, IL); by five grandchildren; by eight great-grandchildren; as well as by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wells Heidecker. Olen was a lifelong farmer, and was also a member of the Farm Bureau. He was also very active as a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church, the Martinsville Board of Education, the HIA Insurance Board of Directors, and was also a 4-H leader. He will long be remembered for his tireless work ethic, and for the care and love he gave to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Services will follow and will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association or to Olive Branch Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
