Opal E. Self, 96 of Oblong, IL, died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2013 at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, IL. She was born September 18, 1917 in Marengo, IN, the daughter of John Mills and Zada Miller Mills. Opal worked production at Hamilton Glass in Vincennes for 23 years before she retired at the age of 62. She attended the Oblong First Christian Church.Opal married Finish Self on May 25, 1939 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Madge Pulleyblank and Viola Lukens; her brothers, Thomas Mills & Hobart Mills; her daughter in infancy, Judith Self; 2 sons-in-law, William Powell and Floyd Cullison; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Self.She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sue Cullison, Oblong; 2 sons and her daughter-in-law, Jim Self, Bicknell, IN, Bruce and Kay Self (Carlyle, IN); 6 grandchildren, Brent & Shelly Powell (Palestine), JoNell & Steve Bodine (Salem), Stacey & Steve Eck (Vincennes), Marinda Purcell (Vincennes) Bruce Self IL (Vincennes); and 6 great grandchildren.Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 15th at 3:00 p.m. at the Billet Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine before graveside services. Memorials may be made to the Oblong First Christian Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
