Opal Marie Graham Cornwell, 78, of rural West York, IL, died at 2:16 a.m. on April 2, 2018. Born in Crawford County, IL on July 20, 1939, she was the only child of Roscoe & Mary Graham. She married Daniel R. Cornwell on January 1, 1957. Although she wore many hats and did many things in her life, she was most content being a housewife and especially a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Danny Joe (Rachel) Cornwell, USN, Guam, James R. Cornwell, Annapolis, IL, Billy (Beth) Cornwell, Toledo, IL, Laura Lee Redman, Hutsonville, IL, Robert R. Cornwell, Marshall, IL, and Jerry J. Cornwell, West Union, IL; by her grandchildren, Olivia, Sydney, Jack, Charlie, Henry, Graham, Ivy, Amanda, Tracey (Justin) McWhirter, Cody, Dylan, Nate, and Lucas; and by her great-grandchildren, Alley and Carson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years. Per Opal’s wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated and also per her request, no flowers, plants, or memorial contributions are to be given. If you want to honor her, she suggested that you take a child to a park or go visit someone; that you purposely think of someone and go do something nice for them in her honor. Just think how much better we would all be if we did just that. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7th at the Melrose Church of God with Wes Cornwell & Danny Harper officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
