Paul W. Mcdaniel

Paul W. McDaniel, 86, of rural Palestine, IL, died at 9:12 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born December 18, 1929 in Palestine, the son of Valmore “Holey” McDaniel & Nellie (McCorkle) McDaniel. He was a 1947 graduate of Palestine High School, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, having been stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Back home, he was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Operating Engineers Local #841. He was also a member of the Palestine First Christian Church and the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742. Paul married Blanche Lucille White on May 1, 1953, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Jim & DiAnne McDaniel (Decatur, IL); by his daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Jeff Miller (Whiteland, IN); three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; his brother & sister-in-law, Joe & Ruth McDaniel (rural Palestine, IL); his sister & brother-in-law, Jennalee & Ab Nohe (Bargersville, IN); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother & sister-in-law, Wayne & Mildred McDaniel. Paul was an outdoorsman who loved coon hunting, raising and training coon dogs, and deer hunting. He also enjoyed planting trees and watching them grow, putting out an apple orchard at home and also planting trees on his river bottom ground. His love, wisdom, and vitality for life will truly be missed. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Steckley officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Christian Church and to the Palestine Public Library, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
