Pearl Carpenter

Pearl Carpenter, 100, of Flat Rock, IL, died at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Heritage Health in Robinson. She was born October 5, 1916 in rural Flat Rock, the daughter of John Taylor & Nora (Montgomery) Taylor, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Arch Carpenter on December 24, 1939, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Carpenter; and by her sisters, Iva Taylor and Edna Taylor. She was survived by one son & daughter-in-law, Edward & Sarah Carpenter (rural Flat Rock); by her daughter, Ann Martin (Florida); by her daughter-in-law, Irene Carpenter, (Florida); by 9 grandchildren, Jayne Shimp, Nancy Schrage, Tony Weaver, Lesa King, Abby Carpenter, Molly Grimm, Matt Carpenter, Laura York, and Heather Wampler; by 10 great-grandchildren, Max Shimp, Meryl Shimp, Ryne Schrage, Mitchell Schrage, Kyle Weaver, Alex Weaver, Gavin King, Andy Grimm, Ellie Grimm, and Wren York; as well as several nieces and nephews. Pearl was a homemaker and spent much of her time crocheting and quilting. She was a wonderful cook and her family has many fond memories of times spent at the dinner table. She also had a green thumb, and loved spending time in her garden. More than anything, Pearl loved spending time with her family, and was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be forever missed. She was a longtime member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Flat Rock, and was a proud life-long Baptist. There will be a private family service, with burial following in the Jones Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Flat Rock First Missionary Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
