Raymond “Ray” Vern Miller age 84 of Robinson, IL passed away at 9:20AM on February 15, 2014, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong after several years of declining health. Born December 3rd, 1929 in Oblong, IL, he was the son of Rosa (Cruse) and Alva Miller. After graduating from Oblong High School in 1948, he moved to Peoria, IL to work at Caterpillar. Later he moved to Terre Haute IN where he worked at Allis Chalmers for ten years. During that time, he met and later married Janet Shan from Noble IL. They were married on October 19, 1952. In 1962, they moved to Robinson, IL, with their children, Glenn and Laura, where he worked at Marathon Oil Company for 26 years. He was a long-time member of the Elks Club and Oak Glen Golf Course. A dedicated and loving husband and father, Raymond will be sorely missed. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janet Shan Miller, son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Jennifer Miller, daughter Laura S. Meyer, and granddaughter Emily S. Meyer all of Marietta, GA. Additional survivors include niece Paula Miller Pavia and nephew Alan Miller formerly of Oblong, brother-in-laws Jerry and Steve Shan of Noble IL, and sister-in-law Carol Shan Peters of Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Floyd Miller and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m.at the Crest Haven Memorial Park in Olney, IL. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL. Memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Oak Glen Golf Course.
