Rev. Robert Charles Boyd, age 73, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at his home in Thomasville, N.C. with family present. Bob was born in Robinson, the son of Lyle & Marilyn (Correll) Boyd on October 25, 1941. On Dec 31, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart Bernice Knoblett in Robinson. Bob graduated from Robinson High School in 1959 and received a BA degree from Bradley University, Peoria, IL in 1972. Bob was ordained by the U.C.C. on May 3rd, 1981 in Mellott, IN. and continued with post graduate studies at the School of Theology; Huntington University, Huntington, IN, receiving high marks and awarded the honor of “Best Sermon” in a multi-seminary competition during his last year at Huntington. Bob worked for the Robinson Daily News as a typesetter and print press operator until he entered the ministry full-time in 1968. Rev. Boyd pastored churches in Robinson, Oblong, Newton, & Lacon, IL, Wingate, Mellott, Warren & Plum Tree, IN, and Winston-Salem, Burlington, Seagrove, & Greensboro, NC in his 45 years of pulpit ministry. Bob enjoyed fishing, gospel and bluegrass music, church hymns, playing the mandolin, and photography. He cherished every moment spent with family. During his life he volunteered his time as a licensed EMT & firefighter, worked with church and community food banks, and availed himself to area funeral homes; providing comfort and farewells to those whom family or time had forgotten. Bob braved the halls of public schools to substitute teach and drive a school bus. He was a member of The Lion’s Club in Seagrove, NC and worked at local election precincts in Guilford County, NC. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Timothy Wayne and Michael Kevin; in-laws, Charles J. & Helen (White) Knoblett; brother in-law, Charles W. Knoblett, and sister in-law, Maxine Boyd. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice J. (Knoblett) Boyd; his sons and daughters, Susan & Dennis Brady, Wingate, IN, Rachael & Fernando Morales, Burlington, NC, John C. & Lauralee (Nine) Boyd, Palestine, IL, Matthew H. Boyd, Thomasville, NC, Shelley (Dye) Boyd, Randleman, NC; Mark A. & Mary Elizabeth (Nine) Boyd, West Lafayette, IN, Charles R. & Donna (English) Boyd, Randleman, NC, Joshua Solomon, Indianapolis, IN and Sean Straley, Warren, IN, (both having lived significant time in the home and considered sons); Brothers Richard (Betty), Oblong; Larry (Brenda), Robinson; and Jerry, Landrum, S.C.; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews from the Crawford County area. A Celebration of Life Service led by Rev. Leland Culp will be held at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, IL on April 11, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a time of sharing and fellowship in the rear annex of the building. A private interment will be held at Kirk Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Lane, Lexington, N.C. 27292 or to Palm Street Christian Church, 1921 Palm Street, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
