Richard "Dick" Rodgers

Richard “Dick” Rodgers, 78, of Robinson, IL, died at 1:31 p.m. (EST) on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 2, 1938 in Palestine, IL, the son of John L. & Mary (Hall) Rodgers. Richard married Sharon Beard on May 12, 1956, and she survives. He is also survived by his three daughters, Debbie & Greg Lowe (Robinson, IL), Karen Stinson (Robinson, IL), and Pam Dorn (Robinson, IL); by seven grandchildren, Bradley & Dutches Lowe (Cloverdale, IN), Mindy Stinson (Robinson, IL), Cody Stinson (Robinson, IL), Angie Lowe (Robinson, IL), and Brooke & Jed Kamplain (Robinson, IL); by seven great-grandchildren; by his brother-in-law, Richard Beard (Robinson, IL); as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, John W. Rodgers and Noble Rodgers; by his sister, Lucille Davis; by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Roscoe & Etta Mae Beard; and by his brother-in-law, Jerry Wayne Beard. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Palestine High School. He went on to work for a number of local businesses, and was a longtime employee of both the Velsicol Chemical Plant and of Hershey Chocolate. He was a longtime member of the Robinson First Baptist Church and was also an active member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, where he was a Past Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Danville Scottish Rite. He coached boys’ baseball and girls’ softball for much of his younger years. He was a devoted sports fan and could often be found rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, the Indianapolis Colts, and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. He was also an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, who spent many a day afield and on the water. Richard was a loving husband and father who loved celebrating the holidays with his beloved family, who have lost a patriarch, mentor, and friend. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Masonic rites will follow and will start at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Following Masonic rites, a funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Trey Reid. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Robinson First Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
