Robert 'Bob' L. Bomer, 81, of Robinson, IL, died at 12:18 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016 in his home. He was born October 15, 1934 in Hardinville, IL, the son of Jesse Levi Bomer & Georgia 'Blanche' (McGovern) Bomer, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frederick & Magdalena “Molly” Bomer; by his maternal grandparents, Henry & Marry “Molly” McGovern; by his siblings, Esther, Betty and Bernard Bomer (all in infancy), Bernice Bradbury, William F. Bomer, and Roger K. Bomer. He married Beverly J. (Piersall) Bomer on December 24, 1954, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Keith & Diann Bomer (Oblong, IL); and by his daughter & son-in-law, Brenda Kay & Greg K. Henry (Oblong, IL); by his grandchildren & their spouses, Joshua & Stephanie Henry (Mahomet, IL), Robert & Judilee Henry (Battle Creek, MI), Benjamin R. Bomer (Busan, South Korea), Kara N. & Aaron Kurtz (Newton, IL), Trish & A.J. Martin (St. Joseph, IL); by his great-grandchildren, Aidan Henry, Liam Henry, Charlie M. Martin, Noah R. Kurtz, Micah J. Kurtz; by his sisters, Patricia Bomer (Oblong, IL) and Linda Rowe (Mascoutah, IL); by his sister-in-law, Opal Bomer (Morton, IL); by his brother-in-law, George Piersall (Robinson, IL); by his sisters-in-law, Nina Fenton (Crawfordsville, IN) and Neva Mendenhall (Oblong, IL); as well as by several nieces and nephews. Bob was a 1952 graduate of Oblong High School, and went on to work for Marathon Oil Co. for 37 years, before retiring in 1992 as a production superintendent. When he wasn’t working in the oil field, he could often be found farming, a passion of his since childhood. He also stayed busy flipping houses, and went on to buy and remodel a total of 17 homes. He had been a Freemason since 1962, and received his 50-year certificate from the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250. He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, for his ability to make and fix anything, and for the loving support he gave to his family. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Masonic rites will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and will be performed by the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16th at the funeral home with Pastor Dee Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, rural Annapolis, IL. Memorials may be made to the Oblong Academic Foundation, to the Lincoln Trail Foundation, or to the Oblong First Christian Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
