Robert Lee Scott, 91, of Palestine, IL, died at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Heritage Health Nursing Home in Robinson, IL. He was born August 18, 1924 in Sullivan, IN, the son of Roy Scott & Lillian Florence Baxter Scott, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty McKain; by his brother, Duane Scott; by his sister, Frances Murray; by a granddaughter, Ruby May Murdock; and by a son-in-law, Bill Murdock. He is survived by his daughters, Jackie Murdock (Palestine, IL) and Sheila & Marty Kantner (Princeton, IN); by his brother & sister-in-law, Carl & Betty Scott (Anderson, IN); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, including his special great-granddaughter, Haley; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Back home, he worked as a janitor and school bus driver at Robinson High School before retiring in 1986, after over 20 years of work. He also worked as a janitor for Crawford Electronics, for Hershey through Westaff and also delivered newspapers around Palestine for a time. In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing and walking around town. He will long be remembered for his love of Chicago Cubs baseball and country music, and for his tireless work ethic. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15th at the funeral home, with Pastor Jane Drake officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery, rural Oblong, IL, with military rites to be performed by the Robinson V.F.W. Post #69. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
